Mikki, you’re beautiful, is what people say to me.
Some say it to me, now and then, others frequently.

I hear this quite a lot, and strange as it may seem.
The words I hear and what I see, are two completely different things.

My body dysphoria makes me see, stranger things.
That other people don’t really get.

But why people, say, “hey Mikki, you’re beautiful”.
It’s not clear at all, to me, quite yet!

But what do I see when I look at myself?
Isn’t the same as what you say.

You see somebody beautiful.
But in my eyes, I see imperfection all the way.

I sometimes wish that what I saw was through your eyes, not mine.
And maybe I could see, and say “hey Mikki, you’re beautiful, beautiful as can be”

I know for my age I look quite good, not bad for 52!
Genetics maybe play a part; I really just don’t know!

But what I see in my mind’s eye.
It’s something a little flawed.

I don’t seek sympathy or pity folks.
It’s just the way I was born.

Don’t seek to be perfect, well not just yet.
Just get better with each day.

Wake up in the morning.
And I’m a little more beautiful than yesterday.

Maybe one day I will see, the same as you all do.
And on that day, I will say “Mikki, you’re beautiful and I love you”.
