As quiet as a mouse
I hear this noise
Like it fills my house
A constant beat
It is my heart
Beating loudly
But broken now

The noise I hear
Inside my head
Constant beating
Means that I’m not dead
But sometimes recently
It is so loud
I often wonder
Should I be proud

The silence broken
It’s really loud
The noise I hear
A constant sound
A ticking time bomb
But not to explode
It reminds me though
I’m alive

My heart I wonder
If it will break
My emotional sorry
It’s mine to make
The constant beating
I wonder how
It sounds so loud
Like an external sound

I wish my heart
Was not so heavy
Heartbreak sucks
Like a broken levy
Don’t want this pain
Inside of me
But my heart beats heavy
Constantly!

Like a fart in a bottle
Trapped inside
No where to go
And no where to hide
Caught in a jar
Screwed in tight
Sealed inside, smelling of shite!

Like a fart in a bottle
I bounce off the sides
Constantly going around inside
Thoughts they ricochet
Off the insides
Going around inside my mind
Sometimes wish
That I was dead

Like a fart in a bottle
I fester and rot
Continually smelling
A decomposing lot
The fowl stench
Inside this jar
Make me wonder
how long I will last

Like a fart in a bottle
Trapped, I am
A million thoughts
About who I am
I ruminate badly
About things in the past
But nothing lasts
And I’m sure of that
but just know, I’ve had a blast

Like a fart in a bottle
The lid released
To stay in the jar now
Would be so rude at least
So I linger just a little
But escape at last
To experience the outside
And make people gasp

Like a fart in a bottle
Trapped no more
I’m free of this vessel
Alone, once more
But my stench
Is no more now
Rose scented, not foul
As I go and explore
The beautiful world

Recently my partner and I were looking for a portable power bank and after much research we ended up purchasing the Anker Solix C300. Our aim was to allow my partner and I to run our DJ setup in our motorhome at weekends away, festivals, or out at remote locations so we could stream and practice while both away and off grid in such remote locations.

We looked at quite a few power banks from a few manufacturers as to which would give us a decent amount of time and within our budget of just £300. It also needed to be portable, so carrying weight was a consideration.

If you spend time on the road or off the grid, a reliable power source can make all the difference.

Whether you’re in a motorhome, van, or tent, the Anker SOLIX C300 is one of the most practical and versatile options around. It’s compact, durable, and powerful enough to keep all your essential devices running — making it the ideal portable power bank for motorhomes and camping.

Built for Portability and Camping in mind

The first thing you notice about the Anker SOLIX C300 is how compact and well-built it is. True to Anker’s reputation, it feels solid and thoughtfully designed, with a comfortable handle and a clean, modern finish. Despite its small size, it packs a 288Wh LiFePO₄ battery, known for its excellent lifespan and safety. That means you can recharge it thousands of times without losing much capacity — ideal for long trips or frequent outdoor use. It also charges from low charge to full in about 1 hour.

Power That Keeps Up With You

With a 300W continuous AC output, the SOLIX C300 has enough power to handle the essentials: phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, mini-fridges, lights, or even small coffee makers. For motorhome owners or campers, that’s more than enough to stay comfortable and connected without worrying about running out of juice.

What’s really impressive is how fast it recharges. Plug it into a standard wall socket, and it hits around 80% charge in under an hour. You can also connect solar panels for eco-friendly recharging when you’re off-grid — a huge plus for campers who like to stay out longer.

Plenty of Ports for Every Device

Anker nailed the port selection on this one. The SOLIX C300 has a total of eight ports, so you can power up several devices at once — no adapters or cable juggling required:

3 AC outlets (up to 300W total) for small appliances or laptops (please base this in mind, if will not run devices over 300W)
3 USB-C ports, including two ultra-fast 140W outputs for laptops and one 15W port for phones and accessories
1 USB-A port for older gadgets or wearables
1 12V car / DC outlet for mini fridges, inflators, or camping lights

Whether you’re charging your phone batteries, powering a laptop, or running a fan in your motorhome, the C300 has you covered.

Our DJ Setup is 1 x Dell Laptop (65w), 1 x Pioneer FLX-2 DJ Controller (5w) and a set of Creative Labs Pebble Speakers (5w)

The Anker Solix C300 gives us about 20 hours of continual play with our DJ setup before we need to recharge, Something we have put to the test extensively.

Smart, Simple, and Reliable

The little details make a big difference. The SOLIX C300 includes a built-in LED light that doubles as a camping lantern, and a bright, easy-to-read LCD screen that shows exactly how much power you’re using and how much is left.

It also connects to the Anker app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, letting you monitor power usage or control settings remotely. It’s these small touches that make it such a smart companion for road trips and outdoor adventures.

Why It’s Perfect for Motorhomes and Camping

If you travel frequently or love the freedom of camping without hookups, the Anker SOLIX C300 offers an ideal balance of portability, power, and convenience. It’s lightweight enough to carry easily but strong enough to run the gear that keeps your motorhome or campsite comfortable. The quick charging, solar compatibility, and wide range of ports make it a true all-rounder.

Final Thoughts

The Anker SOLIX C300 isn’t just another portable power bank — it’s a reliable, travel-ready power station that fits right into van life, road trips, and outdoor living. Compact, efficient, and thoughtfully designed, it’s exactly what you want if you’re searching for the ideal portable power bank for motorhomes and camping.

If you want peace of mind wherever the road takes you, the SOLIX C300 is a smart investment that delivers power, flexibility, and long-term reliability in one sleek package.

The M62
A UK motorway,
Spanning from East to West
Unless you’re a Scouser
Then it’s East,
And down to the best

Everyday driving
I do, travel thee
And you drive me mad
As mad, as can be
With your multiple pile ups
And traffic so slow

The highest motorway point
Built in this fair land
Glorious views, over Manchester
But, no time to look
A motorway so busy
you can’t really look

Traffics so bad
For all to see
With multiple collisions
Accidents, daily from junction 1 to 38
Nowhere in this motorway
Are you actually safe

The constant roadworks, I see
Since I could drive
Ner, 40 years, 40 years of my life
Sat parked, but not, a parked queue
Every day spend time
Almost, daily on you

Driving the dangerous lanes
With drivers, who care, not a jot
Driving like muppets
Really for what?
A circus of idiots
i see them a lot

Speeding, dodging and weaving
Lane discipline, not
And lorry’s who sit
Right up your arse
They can see your dinner
From the night before

Audi and BMW drivers
On a personal quest
To beat their personal, drive home best
Driving at speed, no care for the rest
Who plod on regardless
And don’t hope for the best

No indication
Just pull out you c**t!
Emergency braking
More times than I, care to count
Traffic backs up
And we all, slow down

Reports of a jam, on the radio news
I know I’m sat in it
20 minutes ago this information could use
So now I’ve got the M62 blues
And going nowhere
I’ll be late, yet again, of that I am sure

Sirens are blazing
Emergency services, pass us all by
Hope everyone’s okay
And nobody, died
Motorway, now coned off
Traffic movement is fooked

As we drive past
An overturned van
Man sat, on the shoulder
With his head, in his hands
Doesn’t look injured
Can’t say the same for his van

Everyone one frowning
Theres no cause for smiles
Everyday carnage
I hear everyone sigh!
But on this stretch of motorway
Just another day, in paradise

The M62, worst motorway I actually drive
And sometimes I wonder
At my destination
How I actually, arrived
Today was a good day
I got home alive

I’d say I’m a good driver
Approaching a few million miles
But this motorway
It fills me, with dread
The standard of driving
Seen better from the dead and the blind

Really no choice
the only real way
So, sit on your tarmac
And endure this motorway, everyday
This road it does me
M62, you’re the bane of my life

Before I start let me just say it’s unwise and unhealthy to just start taking a high dose of estrogen. You probably can but for the reasons underlined below, you definately shouldn’t!

Estrogen should only be taken under the supervision of a health care professional.

Not to put too fine a point on it but first of all there’s not just the health complications but mental health issues as well.

Taking high doses of estrogen can have a range of physical and mental side effects for someone who is genetically male. This coupled with testosterone blockers can have an effect on both your body and mind.

Here’s a breakdown of why you shouldn’t be taking high doses of estrogen unless supervised.

First off, let’s start with the physical side effects

Changes to Sexual and Reproductive organs

Erectile dysfunction (ED)

High estrogen can make it difficult to achieve and maintain an erection. The urge to have sex is dramatically reduced and even morning erections are significantly reduced.

A decrease in libido

High dosages of estrogen can lead to a reduced interest in sex. This can be a major problem if you are a highly sexual person then maybe you need to question why you would want to take HRT

Infertility

Testosterone plays a major role in sperm production, and low levels of testosterone from testosterone blockers and high levels of estrogen (hrt) which can lower sperm count and affect sperm health/mobility

The recipient will experience smaller testicles (atrophy) and over time this will be coupled with fewer and weaker erections, and a decrease in the volume of ejaculation.

Discharge will also be more fluid and less seminal fluid due to the decreased amount in each discharge.

Over time any one taking testosterone blockers and high volumes of estrogen may become infertile. The longer HRT continues the more likely the recipient will become infertile, permanently.

Your body will also change and the following will happen.

Your body and physical appearance

Fat redistribution

Body fat and weight gain may increase, especially gynaecomastia or enlargement of breast tissues, this is sometimes called “man boobs”. Beasts may become tender and swollen.

Body fat may shift to areas to that are more typical of female fat distribution, such as the hips and chest.

You may also experience muscle loss with muscle tone and muscle tone may decrease leading to a less firm physique.

Weight gain

Weight gain is also a side effect especially around the abdomen and derriere. You may also experience water retention which can lead to facial swelling.

Hair growth

Body hair growth on the body and face may decrease or thin over time. However if you have very dark coarse hair this will not demolish without external factors such as laser treatment.

Skin

Skin will become softer and less oily. Skin will also become much smoother and dryer.

More serious effects are possible increased risk of blood clots, risk of stroke or cardiovascular issues and studies have shown high estrogen levels may increase blood pressure and other cardio vascular issues.

Hot flushes, sweating, tiredness and fatigue, along with feelings of low energy and motivation.

More serious issues

There is also potential for an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and reduced bone density or osteoporosis. Estrogen imbalances can affect bone density over time.

All of these effects are physical and are things are that people talk about but what they don’t tell you about is…..

The mental side effects

Mood Changes, this can get worse as high estrogen levels can contribute to mood swings and increased emotional sensitivity and stability.

Anxiety and irritability can affect some individuals. I know from personal experience this has massively increased for me, the anxiety sometimes is unbearable and this then leads on to the next thing.

Depression

Elevated estrogen levels increase the risk of feeling depressed and gloomy.

Next up is the fatigue, low energy and. motivation. The persistent tiredness can significantly impact on mental well-being and motivation.

There are days where even lying in bed is too much effort and as someone who was highly motivated this is a big thing for me.

Memory and cognitive difficulty is related to fatigue in that memory, particularly short term memory, is an issue. Also difficulty concentrating can be a major problem especially with difficult tasks.

Conclusion

The severity and manifestation of these side effects will vary between individuals, sometimes significantly, depending on the dosage of estrogen, individual personal physiology, and individuals health factors.

If you are considering a transgender, male to female, journey therefore genetically male, consider if undergoing estrogen therapy is for you.

You will require close medical supervision to monitor your bloods, liver function, serum sex hormne bonding globin (shbg), estrogen levels, testosterone levels, prolactin, potassium, sodium, lipids and many more levels or these potential side effects may increase.

They then need to be understood by a health care professional

who will adjust your levels of estrogen to manage them appropriately.

Hope this helps?

So what’s it like to be on female hormones is a question I get asked a lot and all I’m gonna say is “hormones beware” because once you go down the road as a Transwoman you need to be aware as to how these hormones will affect you mentally not just physically!

I’ve been on female hormones now for 6 years, and my own regime and over the past six years have been various drugs and the last year has been different.

Now my medication is beginning to kick in fully and I’m on Estrogen patches 150mg patches every three days and also Prostrap.

So be aware of what to expect.

Don’t think this is going to be a walk in the park!

The mood swings that I am experiencing over the past 12 months have been nothing short of mind-blowing and I don’t mean mind blowing in a good way either.

I’ve got really bad brain fog and I also my brain is flip flopping between moments of elation to really bad anxiety and really bad panic attacks.

These as i get towards the end of the Prostrap, which is a testosterone reduction drug injected once every 3 months, become very severe and cause me such mental anguish that it affects my very ability to think clearly. So much so its making me not care whether I’m alive or not, this is not suicidal thoughts but just that I couldn’t care less.

My mood suffers, my health suffers, my relationship suffers, my work suffers and I just don’t care about anything, including myself.

This has gotten worse in the last 12 months and this month is the worst yet!

I’m due my injection in 2 weeks and my mood is low.

I had a massive panic attack this morning and things I’m really good at, I couldn’t do, I couldn’t cope with the pressure of my mixing music as I practised DJing and I ended up crying on the decks.

My partner and I argued over something really trivial but it was a big deal to me.

I’ve removed myself from everyone today and I’m sat with only my brain and thoughts, which to be honest are so muddled and foggy I’m struggling to think about things, process things and order my life.

I’ve written this, as I need to get it out of my head, and for the rest of the day I will be sitting in a dark room being vacant!

The hormonal changes to my body are fantastic but the mental changes are next level shit and something I wasn’t aware of when I started in this journey.

My partner says that she can relate to how feel as it’s like being around someone with bad PMD, she’s understanding to a point but I’m not my usual happy self at the end of month, three weeks before my next prostrap injection.

It’s not all frilly dresses and nice frocks, there is a down side!

Theres a common misconception in the media, and sectors of the public, that trans people, particularly trans women, are only transitioning to gain access to women’s bathrooms for the purposes of committing crime.

So, I’ve been doing some research about what the trans gender crime rate in bathrooms is compared to the crime commited by cis gender people per capita of population. This is a long read, so make a brew and make yourself comfy.

The question, Crime rate statistics for trans people using bathroom of their aligned gender

It is important to address the premise of the question, what are the crime rate statistics for trans people using the bathroom of their aligned gender, as it is based on a harmful misconception.

I have done a lot of research and the articles I found online show that the consensus of governmental, law enforcement agencies and advocacy groups show no evidence of increased safety risks for cisgender people when sharing bathrooms with transgender individuals aligning with their gender identity. In fact, the data indicates the opposite!

Key findings

Lack of evidence for increased studies show no link between trans-inclusive bathroom policies and an increase in crime within these spaces. Links below.

Nondiscrimination laws have been in place for extended periods, both in the UK and worldwide, without a rise in public safety incidents in restrooms or locker rooms.

An increased risk for transgender individuals has been shown that transgender people are disproportionately more likely to experience harassment, verbal abuse, physical assault, and sexual assault when using public restrooms. This is when they use the bathroom of their aligned gender.

This risk is greatly increased when they are forced to use facilities that do not align with their gender identity.

A significant percentage of transgender individuals report being denied access to restrooms, facing verbal harassment as well as being denied, and even physical or sexual assault while trying to use or while using toilets aligned with their gender, and more so when using bathrooms of their non aligned gender.

Studies also show that restricting transgender students’ access to bathrooms aligning with their gender identity has been associated with higher rates of verbal, physical and sexual assault against them.

This is also true of binary people who neither align with male or female genders.

Statistics that transgender individuals, as victims of crime, show that transgender people are significantly more likely to be victims of violent crime compared to cisgender individuals.

This is true in all spaces not just bathrooms.

One study has found that transgender individuals were over four times more likely to experience violent victimization or assault, both verbal and physical, than cisgender people.

In some countries this is much higher and the murder rate of trans gender people is show to be higher in those countries. Particularly, South America.

Both transgender men and women experience higher rates of violent victimization than their cisgender counterparts.

Households with a transgender person also report higher rates of property victimization. This statistics also shows that the crime rate on siblings is higher in this category.

Focusing on real issues, such as law enforcement and sexual assault advocates in areas with trans-inclusive policies consistently state that bathroom bans do not enhance safety. For cis gender people or trans people.

It’s worth emphasising that harming anyone in a public restroom is already illegal.

I could not find any per capita crime rates showing any crime rates comparing transgender individuals as perpetrators versus cisgender individuals in bathrooms. They are not collected or not available, likely because the data does not support the premise of transgender individuals being a significant threat in these spaces.

However, data on victimisation reveals a stark disparity and that transgender individuals experience violent victimization at a rate of 86.2 per 1,000 people, compared to 21.7 per 1,000 people for cisgender individuals. This is a worldwide figure.

Conclusion

Any focus should be on the safety and well-being of all individuals. ALL INDIVIDUALS, not just transgender individuals.

Policies that restrict bathroom access for transgender people do not enhance safety for cisgender individuals and, in fact, increase the risk of harm for transgender people. The safety of all is paramount.

A ban on bathroom use for trans gender people will also harm cis gender people who may not fit the stereotypical gender conformity, or have features which do not align with their chosen bathroom. This is going to cause issues for those people when others wave their opinions about!

The available evidence indicates that transgender individuals are far more likely to be victims of crime, in public restrooms, than perpetrators.

UK based information

While specific UK-based statistics aren’t available directly, comparing crime rates of transgender individuals in bathrooms vs cisgender individuals, the general trends and findings align with the information provided above.

Here are some of the links to websites I’ve found that offer related information and UK-specific data:

Stop Hate UK

This organisation provides information and support regarding hate crimes, including those targeting transgender people. Their website includes statistics and reports on the prevalence of transgender hate crimes in the UK.

https://www.stophateuk.org/about-hate-crime/transgender-hate/

https://www.stophateuk.org/about-hate-crime/sexual-orientation-and-transgender-identity/

GOV.UK (Government Statistics)

The official UK government website publishes statistics on various aspects of crime, including hate crimes.

While specific data on transgender individuals as perpetrators in bathrooms is unlikely, I found a few reports on hate crimes motivated by transgender identity.

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-year-ending-march-2024/hate-crime-england-and-wales-year-ending-march-2024

(This report provides broader crime statistics by sex, which can be useful context.)

(This provides data on victimisation based on sexual orientation and sex, which can offer some related insights.)

West Yorkshire Police

(Information via a freedom of information request)

This response to a Freedom of Information request provides data on recorded transgender hate crimes in the West Yorkshire area.

While geographically specific, it highlights the focus of law enforcement on crimes against transgender people.

Galop

This organisation specialises in supporting LGBT+ victims of crime.

Their website contains statements and information related to the safety and rights of transgender individuals, including concerning bathroom access.

https://galop.org.uk/news/galops-statement-in-response-to-the-governments-plans-to-halt-the-march-of-gender-neutral-toilets/

UK Parliament Committees

The link below provides written evidence submitted to parliamentary committees, which includes data and analysis on the offending rates of transgender individuals in the UK prison population.

It’s important to note that this focuses on those within the criminal justice system and not specifically bathroom-related crime.

https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/18973/pdf/

Key information from these UK-based resources

Hate crimes against transgender people are a documented issue in the UK, and these are increasing in some areas and are bound to get worse due to the Supreme court Vs transgender people ruling in April 2025.

The focus of concern and data collection in this document is primarily on the victimisation of transgender individuals, not their perpetration of crimes in bathrooms.

There is an ongoing discussion in the UK regarding bathroom access for transgender individuals, often framed around safety and inclusivity.

Organisations like Galop highlight the fear and risk faced by transgender people when using public restrooms.

Government statistics on crime generally focus on sex (male/female) and are beginning to include data on hate crimes based on transgender individuals.

In general it’s crucial to remember that the lack of data supporting the idea of transgender people being a significant threat in bathrooms in the UK mirrors the findings globally.

The real issue is the safety and well-being of transgender individuals who face disproportionate risks in public spaces.

Again,. I will say that I am in not saying women should not be safe in single sex spaces. Quite the contrary, that Trans Women are not the issue here.

Since the Supreme Court’s ruling back in May – you know, the one about how a “woman” is defined as the gender assigned at birth in the For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers case – it’s really got me thinking. So as always I’ve been doing a ton of reading and trying to wrap my head around it all.

It’s worth remembering that the court was really focused on how existing laws are interpreted, not on creating new rules. The courts actually made it clear that trans folks shouldn’t face discrimination, and they weren’t trying to define sex or gender outside of how the Equality Act works.

However, changes in the media and therefore social interactions seem to be making this change in society and the mindset of people.

Now, this isn’t just something I’m interested in because it directly affects me as a trans woman – although it definitely does! I’ve also been trying to educate myself, maybe even prepare myself, for what might come next.

My Backstory

For starters, even though I’ve been living as a woman for so many years now and all my official documents say my gender identity is female, it feels like for some people, this ruling just wipes all that away and puts me right back at the beginning!

Back in 2018, I reached out for some medical support and spent months talking with a psychotherapist. That’s still something I’m doing, and I do have a diagnosis for both gender dysphoria and body dysphoria.

Getting that diagnosis wasn’t like a lightbulb moment where I suddenly declared, “Hey, I’m a woman!”

It was more like it made me take a really serious look at my life, my present and future and more importantly, myself. I had so many deep conversations, both with myself and with my closest friends. Something I am eternally grateful for as there support has been amazing!

This lead to me cross-dressing for years before I eventually found myself presenting as female every single day.

Then, in 2020, I started going by the name, Mikki and talked to my doctors, who promised to support me both mentally and with my transition. I got referred to a gender identity clinic, but the waiting list was incredibly long.

What followed was almost four years of fighting with my doctors and the NHS. During that time, I also used a private gender clinic to get the care and medication I needed, which cost me a small fortune. It wasn’t until 2024 that my doctors finally agreed to a shared healthcare arrangement with my GIC.

Even then, I kept paying for some services and prescriptions up until mid-2024 when my GP finally started prescribing my medication and taking on my healthcare in relation to my transition. This only happened after months of appointments, assessments, and psychological support through the NHS gender clinic in my area. It was a long and challenging road!

So, that’s a little bit of my story. And now, after six years since I first started my trans journey, it feels like I’m facing another hurdle.

The Supreme Court Ruling

The Supreme Court’s ruling says that a woman is defined by her physical sex at birth. For me, this feels like it means I can no longer be seen as a woman in some contexts.

I know on a biological, cellular level, I am genetically male and always will be. But my mind, my mannerisms – everything about me is so incredibly female. Growing up, I was even bullied for being seen as “gay” or “queer” because of it and I have been called some horrendous names through my life.

The reasoning behind this ruling seems to be about keeping biological women safe in single-sex spaces, and the big thing everyone keeps bringing up is “toilets.”

Personally, when I go into a bathroom, all I want to do is pee, wash my hands, and maybe touch up my makeup. It’s really that simple.

But the first thing that pops into my head when people talk about this is, “Who on earth is going to police this?”

Are establishments going to hire bathroom monitors?

That seems unlikely since most places are already struggling with staffing. And if they did, what would they even ask for to grant access? A driving license? Photo ID? Or maybe they’d want to peek down my trousers? Honestly, neither of those is going to happen!

For one thing, I don’t even carry photo ID because it’s not a legal requirement here in the UK. And secondly, the only person who gets to see what’s under my clothes is my partner, and trust me, if you asked to see mine in front of her, she’d be the first to tell you to “get lost!” in no uncertain terms!

Trans Men

There’s also a really important flip side to this ruling. It affects trans men too! They’re now potentially not allowed to use the men’s bathroom either and might be expected to use the bathroom of their birth-assigned gender – which is the women’s bathroom.

Think about that for a second. Now, anyone might be walking into the women’s restroom, and saying they are a trans man and what’s to stop any cisgender man from walking in and simply saying they’re a transgender man?

Absolutely nothing!

So, let’s be crystal clear. If a cisgender man has harmful intentions and wants to go into the women’s toilet to commit terrible crimes like rape, putting up signs or enacting legislation isn’t going to stop them. Their intent is the problem here, not Trans women.

Now, I’m not saying that something has never happened between a trans woman and a cisgender woman in a women’s bathroom, but I’ve really struggled to find any documented instances compared to the number of crimes committed by cisgender men.

Actually, when you really dig into the data and research around this whole bathroom safety issue, it paints a very different picture than the one often presented.

For example, I was reading a really interesting research brief from the Policing Institute [https://www.policinginstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/PF_Research-Brief_JULY-2017-FINAL-1.pdf]. They looked at a lot of the concerns being raised, and what they found was that there’s actually no evidence to suggest that transgender women pose a greater risk in women’s restrooms compared to cisgender men. The focus on trans women as potential offenders just isn’t supported by the facts.

Then, I also came across some written evidence submitted to a parliamentary committee here in the UK [committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/16346/html/]. This kind of information often dives deep into the statistics and expert opinions, and again, the overwhelming message is that the real safety concerns in women’s bathrooms overwhelmingly involve cisgender men committing offenses. It’s not transgender women who are the primary issue.

Please pay particular attention to the section titled toilets and the highlighted text!

There’s also a really insightful article by Julia Serano, a trans woman and author, where she breaks down a lot of the common misconceptions [https://juliaserano.medium.com/transgender-people-bathrooms-and-sexual-predators-what-the-data-say-2f31ae2a7c06].

She points out that the data consistently shows that transgender people, including trans women, are actually far more likely to be the victims of violence and harassment, including in public spaces like bathrooms, rather than the perpetrators.

So, when we’re talking about keeping women safe, the evidence really points to addressing the behavior of cisgender men, not restricting the rights and access of transgender women who are simply trying to go about their daily lives. It’s a bit frustrating because the narrative often gets twisted, and the actual data just doesn’t back up the fears being expressed about transgender women in bathrooms.

Interestingly, while I was looking into all of this, I also came across quite a few instances of women assaulting trans women in bathrooms, especially in America. It seems safety isn’t just a one-way street.

Conclusions

Now, if we’re going to be forced to use the bathroom of our biological sex, who is actually going to enforce this?

It seems much more likely that organizations will just opt for mixed-gender bathrooms as the easiest solution, which ironically could put women at greater risk than single-sex bathrooms.

How on earth are organizations going to police this anyway?

Are we now going to need a DNA test before we can use the loo, or maybe we all have to drop our trousers for a quick inspection?

I really hope the folks at Women for Scotland will be first in line for that! (A little bit of humor here!)

But honestly, the bigger issue here is forcing trans men to use women’s bathrooms. This creates a loophole where any biological male could just walk in and claim they’re a trans man. On the flip side, there will be more assaults on Trans Women in the male bathrooms!

Mark my words, this isn’t going to end well.

There’s also the whole issue of the Equality Act of 2010, which says everyone should be treated equally. Does this ruling override that, or are there some hidden conditions?

And it’s funny how men’s toilets are barely ever part of this conversation. Surely, the average person worried about this wouldn’t be thrilled about their husband potentially sharing a restroom with a trans woman either?

It makes you wonder if the real issue is about protecting spaces for women, or if it’s more about the idea that trans women (and by extension, trans men) shouldn’t exist at all. It’s strange how the focus is almost always just on trans women.

If we’re forced to use the bathroom that aligns with our genetics, it seems pretty obvious that instances of abuse against trans people will likely increase dramatically. We’ll be put in vulnerable situations.

And for those who suggest “separate bathrooms for trans people” or that we should “just use the disabled bathrooms,” that really doesn’t hold up.

Most organizations wouldn’t be able to afford to install extra bathrooms for a relatively small part of the population. Plus, disabled toilets are specifically for people with disabilities. This ruling certainly doesn’t define being transgender as a disability!

As I said this is for a very small percentage of the population, around 0.5% or 262,000 people who identify as transgender. This means the likelihood of you meeting a trans person is very low unless you live in a heavily populated area.

Ultimately, women, men, transgender, intersex, and disabled people all deserve to feel respected and safe. But with this ruling, it feels like one group has been unfairly singled out and discriminated against. Of course, some might argue that women were discriminated against before this ruling too.

As a trans woman with a pretty active social life, I can honestly say that in the six years I’ve been using women’s toilets, I have never once felt unsafe. I don’t know how much longer this will happen though as I have noticed that the way some people look at me in the past few weeks is changing, particularly from the older generation.

All my friends who’ve used the bathroom with me have never felt unsafe because I was there. They’ve actually repeatedly told me they feel safe when they’re with me in the bathroom.

All I want to do is pee or get changed, and I always do that privately in a stall or cubicle, just like everyone else.

The only time I’ve ever been harassed in a bathroom was in Cheshire about five years ago, and it was by the landlady who actually followed me into the toilets. So, it’s not always who you might expect.

Honestly, I think things might get worse before they get better, and right now, my defenses are up and I’m ready for whatever comes my way.

The lies and misinformation has already started in the mainstream media and this is only going to make matters worse and the push back from the community and supporters at large has begun already.

In the workplace

On 25 April 2025, the EHRC issued a short interim statement (not formal guidance) following the Supreme Court ruling. Key points for employers include:

Confirmation that, under the Act, a “woman” is defined as a biological woman or girl (a person born female). A “man” is a biological man or boy (a person born male).

Trans status, even with a GRC, does not change a person’s sex for the purposes of the Act.

In workplaces, trans women should not use women’s facilities and trans men should not use men’s facilities. Nor should they be left without facilities to use. While the statement noted that workplaces are required to provide separate single-sex facilities, there can be circumstances where that is not necessary (in which case, appropriate gender-neutral facilities should be provided). In practice, most workplaces are configured to provide a mix of male, female, accessible and, in some cases, separate gender-neutral/mixed-sex facilities.

The statement notes that, in some circumstances, the law also allows trans women not to be permitted to use men’s facilities and trans men not to be permitted to use women’s facilities. This exemption should be approached with caution and advice taken before relying upon it.

Where toilet, washing or changing facilities are in lockable rooms (not cubicles) which are intended for the use of one person at a time, they can be used by everyone. Where possible, mixed-sex facilities should be provided in addition to single-sex facilities.

The EHRC plans to launch a public consultation in mid-May 2025 and aims to provide an updated Code of Practice to the UK government by the end of June.

The mobile phone
Sometimes leaves me on my own
I sit with others
And how I try
To get there attention
I just might die
We sit and stare
At the little screen
nobody talks
you know what I mean
Conversation draining
And love is waining
Because we stare
At the rectangular glare
Waking in the morning
and the first thing we do
Is pick up our phones
stare at it
Stuck like glue
Addiction to our phones
It’s clear to see
but we do it anyway
just so we can be
Dopamine fix
A tweet or a post
Mobile phones they turn
Us into a mortal ghost
Our addiction its visible
Its clear to see
Addicted to our phone
All are we!
