As I sit here all alone,
Watching waves upon the sea,
I wonder how much time has passed,
And what this place has meant to me.

The waves roll in relentlessly,
And crash against the ancient stone,
Unaware of what they strike,
Or that I sit here all alone.

They’ve travelled far across the deep,
To meet the cliffs upon this shore,
And when their journey reaches land,
They turn and come again once more.

The cliffs stand tall against the tide,
Yet slowly crumble year by year,
And long beyond my fleeting life,
The waves will still be crashing here.

For I am but a speck in time,
A heartbeat in this planet’s days,
A passing thought, a fleeting breath,
Beneath the sun’s eternal gaze.

I feel at peace within my soul,
Of that I cannot lie,
Yet sitting here upon these cliffs,
I cannot help but cry.

This place has always meant so much,
A chapter of my life,
I’ve brought the ones I’ve loved here,
To share this wondrous sight.

Not simply for the beauty,
Or the ocean stretching free,
But to share a little part of who
I’ve always longed to be.

Each partner stood beside me,
And watched the rolling sea,
But time has taken each away,
And now there’s only me.

And once again, I sit alone,
Where memories still remain,
Of laughter shared and love once held,
Of happiness and pain.

For people come and people go,
Like waves upon the shore,
But this place holds a part of me,
And will forevermore.

The faces may be different,
The years have come and gone,
But through each love and heartbreak,
I’ve been here all along.

And here I feel a special bond,
With nature, wild and free,
The wind, the cliffs, the endless sky,
The rhythm of the sea.

The ocean sings its ancient song,
The wind blows past my ears,
And memories of those I’ve loved,
Bring forth a thousand tears.

Yet strangely, I am peaceful,
Despite the tears I cry,
For peace is not the absence
Of the pain we hold inside.

It’s knowing I can miss someone,
And still enjoy today,
That love can leave its memories,
When people go away.

I cannot change the ocean,
Or command the restless sea,
But I can choose to sit awhile,
And simply let me be.

For maybe peace is not a place,
Nor something we must find,
But learning when to let things go,
And quieten down the mind.

This special place is quiet now,
No voices, chats or shouts,
Just me, the wind, the rolling sea,
And thoughts I can’t keep out.

And though the sea will never stop,
Nor time surrender to my will,
I find a peace in knowing this,
The world moves on when I am still.

So I’ll sit here a little longer,
While waves roll all about,
There’s nowhere else I need to be,
Until I’ve cried this out.

And when at last I rise to leave,
And turn to walk away,
I’ll leave my tears upon these cliffs,
And take my peace away.

For all the loves that came and went,
And all that I’ve been through,
Have shaped the woman sitting here,
Who’s learning to be true.

And though I came here on my own,
With memories of the past,
The peace I’ve found within myself,
Is something built to last.

The sea will keep on rolling,
The cliffs will face the tide,
And I will keep on living,
With peace and love inside.
