Day three of Mikki’s highlands of Scotland Adventure was to John o’Groats and Dunnet head.
I also went to a few other places while up here and I might write something about those on another blog.
For those that don’t know John o’Groats and Dunnet head are the most northerly places in Great Britain. John o’Groats is obviously more famous as it’s more commercial where as Dunnet head is the true most northerly point in the UK but is non commercial and to be honest a baron wasteland in comparison to John o’Groats.
John o’Groats is very commercial and even has a harbour. There’s is a huge car park, shops, cafe and even a brewery, as well as the famous signpost.
However unlike its counterpart at the other end of the country at Lands end you have to take your own photograph at the famous signpost.
Dunnet head on the other hand is down a dead end road, Dunnet head is on a small peninsula, and at the end there is a car park, the Dunnet head lighthouse, many old military buildings and a few residential houses.
The lighthouse by the way is not accessable so unless you’re going to trespass photos of the front maybe difficult.
The views from Dunnet head both north and south on the day I was there were something to behold. See below.
