An ode to my dog

I wrote this shortly after my girl passed in July and I hope this poem helps someone else.

I morn my girl Chante, every-day.
My life isn’t the same, since she passed away.
For 15 years, a massive part in my life.
She was even with me, through troubles and strife.
And not a day goes by, when I don’t think of you dog.
The chocolate brown hairball, curled up like a log.
I’m sad that you’re not here, my heart it doth ache.
But I know that your illness, you couldn’t take.
The hardest thing for me, ever to do.
Was ending your life, a freedom it’s true.
The pain you were in, no mortal could fix.
So rest in peace Chante, I miss you to bits.
Though you’re not here, a special place in my heart.
I love you my dog, you were my best friend and a half .

RIP Chante. 2007 to 2022
I so, so miss this girl but I am thankful that she was with me and helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. Without her I wouldn’t have coped. Thank you girl for choosing me to be your guardian in this life.

An emotional evening

Tonight, Friday 12th August, has been an emotional night for me as tonight is the first time I’ve been down to the village in Manchester since Chante, my dog, died.

Since I’ve been going to the gay village in Manchester I’ve taken Chante with me and it would seem she became somewhat of a canine celebrity amongst the customers, bar staff and door staff in the village.

Last night I was very overwhelming that so many people came over to me to give me a hug and pass on their condolences as I went from bar to bar.

Lots of my Facebook friends who already knew about Chantes demise came over to give me a hug and offer their condolences.

There were also quite a few folk I know who did enquire, “where’s Chante” and I had to tell them the bad news. One of the bar staff even started crying when I told her!

I met a few people last night I’ve chatted to before and one girl called, Sarah, had a little cry as well as in the past she has sat stroking Chante as we’ve chatted.

I had a fab night last night and seeing all those people made me realise how well thought of my dog and I are.

Got to love the gay village!

You never know who you’ll meet on a dog walk

I was working in central Manchester today and took, my dog, Chante with me and, when finished working we went for a walk around the city center.

As the city is very quiet I had Chante off the lead and as I walked down Portland Street a lady approached me and said “Hello, Merci” and said “What a beautiful Brittany”.

You don’t know how rare it is for the public at large to know what breed my dog is and I think in 16 years of ownership, this is perhaps the 3rd or 4th time I’ve had this happen.

Anyway, she made a monumental fuss of Chante and started speaking to her in French and ended up knelt down on the pavement stroking Chante.

We talked for a while as I could see she was quite emotional and was actually crying.

Turns out she is from La Rochelle and had a Brittany which was being looked after by her parents. She was due to go home in December but Covid and work meant she had to stay.

Unfortunately, her Brittany had died over the Christmas period and she wasn’t there to be with her.

We talked for about half an hour while she stroked Chante, I don’t know if this made things better or worse but she was distressed. Hopefully, she’ll phone me and I can take Chante to meet her for a walk with her before she returns to France.

Funny old world but hopefully Chante made someone feel better.
