After my post about getting my prescription fulfilled from Gender GP and what is going wrong with Gender GP, I today out of the blue received my prescription and a link for payment from my chosen pharmacy.

This is a little bit confusing because I filled in the original for on the 28th March, again on 11th April and then for a third time on 16th April.

Is this prescription from the first time I filled in the form or the last time?

Whatever, I need my prescription so I’ve paid the pharmacy and if I receive further prescriptions from filling in the form the second and third time I will be grabbing these as well so I have a stockpile.

I still haven’t received my pharmaceuticals yet and id anticipate this being another week which will means its been over a month since the original request and I will have run out of my previous prescription medications by then.

Sort yourselves out Gender GP!

In the meantime, If you are thinking about using their services, think hard as what was once a great service has been sadly lacking in professionalism recently.

I first started using Gender GP nearly 4 years ago, but recent service changes have left me thinking “Gender GP, what is going on?”

This is because your recent service is absolutely appalling.

Let me just explain that I have been using Gender GP for all my gender service up until 12 months ago when my local GP agreed to do shared care and provide blood tests for me.

For the first 6 months this was fine, but the last 6 months have been bloody awful with my prescriptions taking an absolute age to arrive.

Problem is I don’t know what the issue is! If this is my GP or Gender GP, but they just don’t seem to want to work together.

My GP issues a blood test and I go fulfill this and then the results are sent back to my local GP by the hospital.

I then have to go pick these up and photograph them and send them to Gender GP who then take nearly 2-3 weeks to view them and issue my prescription. This is sometimes longer because of the pharmacy Gender GP use.

Roll back to 3 months ago, when after nearly a full month, I had to ask several times for my prescription. This has prompted me to ask my GP time and time again to prescribe but it’s fallen on deaf ears. But this is the subject of another blog!

But its got worse!

Come March 2024, and its time for another prescription. Back I go to Gender GP.

I click on the link I’ve used for 3 years and get a 404 error, page not found. Shit!

I then spend 10 minutes searching for the form again to be presented with a new form for prescriptions.

A very bewildering form which asks many questions I’ve not been asked before and some of them a bit beyond my pay grade as a mere mortal!

I eventually fill the form in and received the completed form response back via email on Thursday 28th March.

Usually I would get a response back in a few days but this time 2 weeks go by before I say “hold on, what happening here”

I email Gender GP, time and time again and get zero response. Not even an automated response!

So I ask on a trans support group on Facebook about the situation and am horrified with the replies I get.

Over 100 replies so far and climbing from people having similar issues, or from those telling me they are having issues and I need to contact Gender GP via their paid contact service.

On 11th April, I find the form on the Gender GP website and full it in, along with my payment of £7.99! Fair enough!

Appointment booked at 10:00 on 15th April.

Four days later I have my chance to speak to my gender care provider and ask “Where’s my prescription? What’s going on?”

I am told the change to their systems has caused a few issues but my prescription will be with me before the end of the day and all the instructions are on the original email.

I’m still waiting for my prescription, and there’s no links in the email response as I was told there is!

I’m also told that they notified customers of the upcoming changes. I’ve had nothing and I’ve really looked in my mailbox.

The level of service at Gender GP has definitely taken a turn for the worse and it’s their patients who are suffering.

My anxiety is currently through the roof as I’m fast running out of my meds and the problem looks unlikely to be resolved in a timely manner!

I used to recommend Gender GP but because of recent service issues I just can’t anymore!

It’s now the 16th and I still haven’t heard from Gender GP about my prescription!

Looks like I will be booking another online chat for £7.99!

Update 16th April

I received the email below today and have yet again filled in my prescription request form. This is 3 times now!

I await a response from Gender GP

I cant wait for the NHS, I just can’t! The timescales for Trans care are not just ridiculous, they’re preposterous!!

How can the service waiting list go from 18 months, pre Covid to 48 months post-Covid? This makes no sense!

I’m already struggling like crazy dealing with my anxiety, then let’s throw in all the extra shit in dealing with my doctors. Their attitude, ineptitude and apathy, and a not to mention a now potential 5-year waiting list. See, Major legal action launched against NHS over spiralling trans healthcare wait times

I can’t deal with that! Just can’t, and that’s why I’ve gone private with Gender GP.

Dealing with the NHS has been nothing but trauma each time I have to speak to them. It’s like my doctors are hoping I’ll go away if they ignore me/don’t deal with me/give me bad service.

Maybe that’s the point? They hope I’ll leave and move to another GP, pay for everything private or kill myself! Either way, they don’t have to deal with me!

So, I go to see private doctors, and ironically the private doctors I’ve seen work for the NHS!!!!! One I saw was still wearing his NHS badge!

I’m happy dealing with Gender GP and paying for my prescription. Ironically when I told my doctors I was using them they point blank refused to work with them. They also refused to help me monitor my bloods and then lied about the owners of the clinic I’d chosen. That’s Dr Helen Webberley, saying she had been struck off by the GMC.

The media’s views on this lady are nothing but vile and despicable. Just google her name.

I have read many articles on this and lots of people saying “they’re in it for the money”, so why has the service I’ve received much better than that of the NHS. If the NHS was doing its fucking job then I wouldn’t need to go to a private clinic!

It seems the Webberleys have been singled out, but there are many other clinics in the UK that provide similar services.

Now, my mentality is such that I just can’t sit around and do nothing!

This is how my brain is wired and I will learn things so, I firstly don’t have to rely on someone else and secondly can help myself again in the future.

I spent a lot of time researching, reading, and talking to people before I made my decision to start hormones. I even send an email full of links to my GP which she said she would read but, alas I don’t think she has.

I’m the happiest now than I’ve ever been at any point in my life before, why would I let someone, especially my GP or the NHS, ruin that? Why?

So I move on and go private and don’t worry about the underfunding, lack of understanding, ineptitude, or Transphobia I experience from the NHS and general public at large!

If the GMC shut down Gender GP I will jump to another provider because I cant wait for the NHS, it is just not an option!

I know the risks of the drugs I take and with my mental history, you’d think my GP surgery would be more willing to help or even guide me. Alas, they are bound by the General Medical Council guidelines most of which were drawn up decades ago.

I’ve been on the waiting list now for 2 years and Sheffield GIC says it will be 2 and a half more before I get an appointment. Can’t sit and wait that long.

This is my life. I will deal with the consequences of my actions but I want to do what I want and not be governed by a group of people who “think” they know what’s best for me but aren’t willing to communicate, help or discuss things with me.

After dealing with the NHS and my Doctors, I’m done. So I’ve decided to go private and chose Gender GP as my private service of choice. This is my experience, or should that be experiences? as no doubt, there will be many more posts about Gender GP as my journey continues.

On 1st March 2021, I took the decision to engage the services of a Private Clinic to help on my gender journey after finding out the waiting list for Sheffield Gender Identity Clinic is now 40 months.

It took a few days for me to sort out my finances but I completed the online form on GenderGP.com, which I admit took me about 3 hours, as I like to give clear concise details. Especially when filling in something which is relevant to the rest of my life.

The form is submitted, a fee is paid and confirmation is received. I am offered the choice of booking an online information gathering session and I’m shocked the earliest appointment is just 48 hours later.

An appointment booked with Diana for 7:30 the following Tuesday. 48 hours later!

Tuesday arrives, 7:30 pm arrives and I have my information gathering session with Diana. I immediately click with her as she’s a fellow Mancunian.

We talk over Google Chat for about 30 minutes and she asks me about my life, my upbringing, my journey, my dysphoria and more.

I will know more in the next 2-4 weeks.

Onwards and upwards.
