I know quite a few people have been asking me why I haven’t posted anything on here for quite a while but currently life’s complicated but fun.
Lots and lots of things have been going on in my life recently, mainly work-related, which have taken me away from my home and social life, but I have been vastly enjoyable.
Since the start of the year, I’ve been in Rhyl, working in a holiday park for five out of the past seven months, and I’ve loved every minute of it. Not just the work that I’ve been doing but also the people I’ve been working with and the social aspect of working in a holiday park.
To start with there was a new development in the holiday park and this required running over 2 kilometres of cable to 25 locations which all needed terminating so that we could install Wi-Fi access points at each location. I’ve also put in fiber optic cable to link several areas of the holiday park together and this has required me to go and learn new skills to complete this part of the operation.
Learning how to terminate fiber optic cables has been a great asset to my skill set and it’s taken me to other locations throughout the UK to terminate fiber cables for other clients.
I also started a project which was quoted just before the start of COVID and this was to automate the entrance and exit barriers at the holiday park.
This has meant I’ve been micro project managing this job and organising ground workers to take the cabling installation to a traffic island, which will be home to automated barriers, automatic number plate recognition cameras, and intercoms. These will allow the automated entry and exit of vehicles just by driving up to the gates as the ANPR cameras read the vehicle’s number plates and open the gates accordingly.
Most of my previous skills have been pivotal in this project but it’s been a learning curve to put all of these skills together to make such a system work as there is cabling, network, access control, CCTV, and software skills required to make everything work.
I really have loved working with some of the people on this project. They’ve not only brought their skills but also that professionalism and I’ve learned quite a lot from these contractors on this job.
Socially I haven’t been out out anywhere other than the Galley Bar on the holiday park and to my bessies on the odd occasions. Because of the holiday park I have made some fantastic friends down in Rhyl and spent many an evening sat with these lovely people enjoying the welsh sunshine.
I also got involved in Macclesfield Pride and built the first website I’ve done in quite a long time.
I also started dating again but realized the pool I now swim in is small and full of sharks so I’m treading carefully and taking things slowly. Too slow for some of my past dates, so I’ve been friend-zoning lots of people recently.
Overall I’m fucking loving my life and happy.
