Is being transgender, the new social pariah?
I’ve been mulling over this idea now for a couple of months. As I’m seeing it more and more on the news and I’ve had a number of conversations about this with friends and colleagues.
I see that the transgender community is definitely becoming more and more the new social pariah.
This is becoming more prevalent in countries like the UK and USA where being transgender will get you beaten, stabbed and even shot just for existing and walking down the street.
While countries like Brazil, have a transgender murder rate so high, with over 4,000 trans people having been killed in the past 13 years.
I myself have been subject to hate and abuse going about my daily life, for the first time in Manchester in August of this year.
A number of my transgender friends have also been subjected to similar kinds of comments, abuse, and physical assault (which were reported to the police but dropped because of lack of evidence!)
This year we had the Brianna Ghey murder, here in the UK and this really hit home hard at the kind of abuse.
Abuse which now puts the UK on the world leaderboard for transgender murders.
Then when the media writes about abuse or murders their rhetoric is incredibly negative and dare I say it offensive and even harmful. People’s views are then formed on these views as unfortunately many citizens still think the media is the truth and nothing but the truth.
I won’t go over again what happened with Brianna Ghey, but the media spent the hours after her death deadnaming and trying to dig up dirt on the girl to discredit her as a Transwoman!
Back to the Past!
At one time in the not-so-distant past in the UK other minorities were vilified for their culture and behavior but society has moved on and these minorities don’t experience this in general anymore because society has evolved and anti-discrimination laws have been put in place.
But there was a time when the ethnic, Black and Asian minorities where called certain names just because of their skin colour or ethnicity.
Those very words will now get you arrested for hate crimes, and quite rightly so.
But those very same rules do not seem to apply to transgender people and I’d say since 2020 they have got worse.
Sure I could report people who call me certain names but the Police are absolutely useless and despite reporting assaults in the past have done nothing.
Even a sexual assault went nowhere.
Our political class aren’t helping matters and the Conservative Party government, currently in power in the UK, is very anti transgender and supported by certain media outlets means misinformation and abuse toward transgender people are on the increase.
I find myself being asked about, or even told, that after reading an article in the Daily Fail, that certain aspects of my life, sexuality, beliefs, and transition are wrong or false!
This is usually said to me in a detrimental way.
The governmental Anti Transgender agenda
In the past week, 6th October 2023, at the Tory party conference the government and Rishi Sunak have again shown their true colours as an anti trans party and spoken out against the trans community.
My response to the Tory party speech is here.
This of course, in their eyes, is not anti transgender but “common sense” but the thinly veiled bullshit will no doubt fuel the anti trans movement and I would expect hate crimes against trans people to rise because of the government’s stance on transgender people?
The problem with a government which pushes an anti trans agenda is that the plebs and transphobes will see this as “it’s okay” because the government are behind them.
This of course is a sad state of affairs, for not just trans people, but is also anti LGBTQI+!
This agenda also does not bode well for women and men who do not conform to societies less than perfect example of what a man and woman are. I would expect attacks on masculine women and feminine men to increase as well.
Summary
So, is being transgender the new social pariah?
Is this social pariahadom only for the Male to Female transgender community?
Or is society’s scorn aimed at all transgender people, young and old, rich or poor, fat or thin, male or female?
When I set out on my journey 4 years ago, I was quite happy to try to get on with my life, but the more society pushes, the harder I push back.
I and many more of my transgender friends don’t want to be treated differently because of who we are, all we want is to get on with our lives, live our lives, and not be subject to society’s scorn and abuse.
Let me ask you a question, if you wouldn’t say the things you deem safe to say to any other group in society, why do you feel safe saying them to a transgender person?
I mean you wouldn’t call and black person the N word and expect not to face repercussions, so don’t call me things and I won’t unfurl my scorn and hatred back at you!
Everyone has the right to live their lives as they see fit.
Trans people face enough mistreatment and hate from the medical, governmental, and institutions, and getting it from society also leads to depression, anxiety, and in extreme cases death from suicide.
Don’t believe me, attend the transgender memorial vigil in Sackville gardens in November. A great number of people who were mentioned last year killed themselves because they couldn’t live with the abuse and torment aimed at them!
Also a great deal of trans people were murdered because of the anti trans movement in other countries.
I just want to live my life and those who have known me for a very long time have all said that since I came out I am a much happier and pleasant person.
However I fear things will get worse for the Transgender community before they get better!
